Project info:

Touring this Autumn, The Coastguard’s Daughter by Olivia Lowry, is presented to you by Canvas Theatre and is a critically acclaimed, poetic and playful piece of original, lyrical theatre and storytelling, interwoven with live shanty singing and hymns of the sea. Set in 1915 and based upon the true and almost lost and forgotten Cornish tale, this unique production celebrates and laments what it is to live by the laws of the sea. Working with different singing communities across Cornwall, each show will have a new and unique identity true to the creation of the people involved.

Canvas is a professional theatre company dedicated to creating high quality, innovative projects that aims to connect and inspire people in Cornwall and beyond.

INTRODUCING... Max Webb

Max will be facilitating the Canvas New Writing sessions at The Old Ale House this summer. Max is a writer himself, keen to learn and question his own relationship between the page and stage along with others. Here's what he says about his reasons for setting up the network with Rosanna...

"I always wanted to be a writer but I didn’t know how. Ever since I was a little boy I’ve been fascinated by stories, by characters and the worlds in which they exist. The thing I wanted more than anything was to step inside of the world of the author, to live and breathe there. When I began to pursue a career in acting the penny dropped – this world already exists, and it’s called the theatre. I’ve been battling with the writing demon ever since, trying to improve my script writing and beginning to put my stories onto the page. This way of expressing myself has been so important in my life and if it’s possible to create a safe space where others feel that they can either start or continue that journey that would be amazing!"

Max is an actor and theatre maker based in Truro. He’s a graduate of RADA’s MA Theatre Lab and is the co-artistic director of the emerging company Muntjac Theatre. In addition to this he also works to cultivate the counties young artistic talent with the Hall for Cornwall youth theatre. He is currently developing several projects under the Muntjac banner which will be heading out on tour in the near future.
